A&M, Shelby #1, #2 At OVC Girls Meet

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Central A&M won both the 7th and 8th grade girls conference meets on Monday, with Shelbyville Moulton claiming the runner-up honors in both.

"Overall, we ran really well and battled the whole way," said Moulton coach Chris Mosley. "They had live scoring up there and we were in first in both grades with only three events to go, but just didn't quite have enough left. Still a fantastic showing and these girls showed they have a lot of heart. I can't say enough about how much the girls fought."

For the 7th grade girls, Coach Mosley cited Shayla Darnell, Chloe Spain and Emmalee Storm.

"Darnell had a great meet, breaking the school record in the open 400 and her jump of 5' in high jump is one inch behind the school record set last year by Sydney Miller," Coach Mosley said. "Chloe Spain also ran amazing, coming back late to win the 1600 and running very tough in the 800 and 4x400. Emmalee Storm also lead off both our conference winning 4x200 and conference runner-up 4x400, handing off with a lead in both races and really running well."

For the 8th grade girls, Coach Mosley cited Maddie Holland, Sydney Miller, Maggy Yockey, and Kary Langan.

"Maddie Holland had a great day, placing in 4 events and anchoring our conference champion 4x100 relay along the way. Sydney Miller also scored in 4 events and defended her conference championship in the high jump, while remaining unbeaten. Maggy Yockey won the 1600 leading every step and was right with Katie Conlin from A&M in the 800 until the very end. She did all of this while not feeling 100%. Kary Langan also stepped up and scored for us in the discus in a very tough field."
