Hornets win, lose at MG

The Cowden-Herrick Hornets opened their season with a win over Ramsey in the Mulberry Grove Turkey Tourney on Monday, 54-46, only to drop game 2 on Tuesday to Odin, 94-55.

The Hornets fell behind on Monday with back-to-back 15-8 and 15-9 runs by Ramsey and trailed by 13 at the break, 30-17. It must have been a great half-time speech by Hornet coach Marc Bain. The Hornets clamped down on Ramsey in the 3rd, limiting them to just six points and cutting the 13-point deficit to just eight in time for the final frame.

Cowden-Herrick turned into the Hulk in the 4th and bowled Ramsey over with a 26-10 final push and an 8-point win. C-H out-scored Ramsey 37-16 in the 2nd half, after being beaten 30-17 in the 1st.

After the crazy comeback on Monday, Tuesday was a different story. The Hornets matched their scoring out put with 55 points against Odin. However, they couldn’t stop Odin in the 94-55 loss.

Odin had seven players in double figures. It was like playing Wack-A-Mole, who ya’ gonna guard.

Burrus followed his 31-point performance on Monday with a 19-point performance on Tuesday. It wasn’t near enough to keep the Hornets in the game. Burrus took 20 shots on Monday (60%) and took 17 shots on Tuesday (41%). He was 4-of-8 (50%)from inside the arc on Tuesday and 3-of-9 from outside the arc (33%).
