Okaw boys 1-1 to start Turkey

Okaw Valley opened their season with a 17-point win over Waverly in the Edinburg Turkey Tourney on Monday, 61-44. However, they dropped their second game on Tuesday to Kincaid, 64-40.

Peyton Hagerman led Okaw in the win with 27 points, including five 3-pointers. He was held to 13 points in the loss with no 3s. Still scored 18 points on Monday with 13 rebounds and a team-high six steal in a double-double effort. He repeated with a 17-point performance on Tuesday.

Joe Jeffers upped his game on Tuesday, scoring 13 points and grabbing 16 boards for his double-double, plus a team-high five assists.

Okaw opened the game on Monday with a 19-13 run, but then had their lead trimmed to five points at the break, 30-25. Okaw kept the upper hand in the 3rd and stretched their lead back out to eight points, 46-38. Down the stretch, Okaw opened up their lead with a final 15-6 push for the 17-point victory.

On Tuesday, Kincaid had the upper hand early for a 4-point lead after one, 17-13. Okaw struck back in the 2nd with a 17-11 run and claimed a 2-point lead at the break, 30-28. But the roller coaster ride had Kincaid steaming downhill again in the 3rd with an 18-8 run.

Facing defeat in the 4th, Okaw was down by eight, 46-38. Kincaid would not relinquish the momentum, however, and continued their push with a 21-12 finish to pull away. Kincaid out-scored Okaw 39-20 in the 2nd half.
