Shelby Meek Vs. Moultrie

Shelby County Legion drew first blood then went silent, losing game 1 against Moultrie-Douglas County on Saturday, 5-3. They didn’t strike again until game 2 was gone, dropping the second game of the doubleheader, 5-2.

Shelby out-hit Moultrie-Douglas 8 to 7, but was limited to scoring in just one inning. Jake Keown’s (SH) double was key to the Shelby lead in the 3rd.

Christian Vonderheide (SS) reached on an error and Keown doubled. Vonderheide scored on a wild pitch and Keown went to 3rd. Theis (SS) walked and Hayden Cole (W) singled. Andrew Hawkins (SH) reached on an error and Shelby was up 3-0.

However, Shelby had just four base runners over the next four innings, while Moultrie passed them by. Moultrie had their own 3-run rally in the 6th. With the game tied in the 7th, Aaron White (W) threw a K, then a walk, then Luke Arstrong hit a home run for the 5-3 lead.

Shelby had two base runners in the bottom of the 7th on a Keown hit. Shelbyville slugger Luke Hatfield was up and could have tie the game with a long ball, but all he saw was three balls.The third fly out of the inning pulled the plug on Shelby.

In game 2, Moultrie-Douglas put up a 4-run rally in the 3rd, while Shelby was silent through six innings, scattering seven base runners off just two hits. Moultrie added another run in the 7th to go up 5-0.
