Central A&M girls took care of business on Thursday knocking off a hot Clinton squad, 67-61.
Clinton (14-4, 7-1 Okaw) lost out to Sullivan at the Okaw Valley Holiday tourney, but recently got even and was ied with Sullovan for a tie for 1st in the conference. With A&M beating Clinton on Thursday, it put the Raiders in a 3-way tie for the conference lead.
The Raiders came strong out of the gate and left the Marroons reeling down, 16-9. A&M stayed on the attack scoring almost 20 points and stretching their lead to 11 points at the break, 35-24.
Clinton stopped the bleeding in the 3rd, but still trailed by a dozen when the 4th period started, 47-35. Clinton pulled out all the stops in a furious 4th, scoring 26 points. However, the Raiders wouldn’t be shed easily. They scored 20 points and clinched the 6-point win.
Ryan Dooley scored a game-high 25 points, scoring seven times from the floor (54%), including two treys, and got to the line for 14 free throws making 11 (78.5%). She not only scored seven times she dished six assists, giving her a share of 33 of the 67 points A&M scored from the floor, and 44of the 67 points scored altogether.
Two more Raiders were in double figures. Kaley Hennings scored 12 points and Taylor Jordan 11, including 8-of-10 at the line, with five assists of her own.
Clinton had two 20-point performers. Bieber had 24 and Toohill 22. They scored all but 15 of Clinton’s points, they just couldn’t match the Raiders team effort.
Clinton ws just one rebound better than A&M and two less turnovers better. But they put the Raiders at the line for 36 free throws, making 25. Clinton got to the line 20 times, making 15. The 10-point A&M advantage at the stripe tipped the scales for their 6-point win.
