The Daily Union Athletes of the Week stepped up their performances this week.
Wyatt Fox, junior wrestler for Shelbyville (145 lbs) has had some disappointing losses, despite being 19-4 and ranked 9th in the state. But on Saturday at the 17-team LeRoy Tournament, Fox ran the table.
He beat Cooper from LeRoy with a 2nd period pin (2:56). He then beat Neal of Porta by a major decision, 17-7. In the title match, Fox won a lopsided decision over state-honorable mention Austin Shelton of Oakwood, 5-1.
Amanda McClain of Okaw Valley girls basketball led them to a dominant win over Martinsville on Thursday. McClain was the only player in the game in double figures with 20 points. She scored eight times from the floor and made 4-of-6 foul shots. It was the second time McClain led Okaw in the last three games, both wins.
Devon Still of Okaw Valley boys basketball led his team in a decisive win over Atwood-Hammond, Friday. Still scored a game-high 23 points. Still scored nine times from the floor with on a trey. Still almost made four free throws.
Tristan Warner, super-sophomore from Windsor basketball, scored 27 points in a hug upset over conference foe Neoga on Friday. Warner scored seven times from the floor, including a 3-point hat trick. More importantly, Warner scored half his points at the line, making 13-of-19 foul shots. That performance came on the heels of a 28-point game a week earlier
