Stew-Stras 8th grade started NTC play with a lopsided win on Thursday night over Beecher City, 40-16.
It was a tight game at the end of the 1st with Stew-Stras leading by just a bucket, 8-6. But in the 2nd period, the Comets streaked out on an 18-2 run and put BC in a big hole, leading at the half by a 18, 26-8.
The 3rd quarter was closer again, but the Comets still extended their lead to 22 points heading into the 4th, 36-14. Down the stretch, Stew-Stras coasted and BC didn’t make up any ground, losing by 24.
Moschenrose led the Comets in double figures, almost matching the BC total by himself. He had 12 points, including five field goals. BC had six field goals.
The rest of the five Comet scoring followed with stair-step scoring. Overbeck had nine points, Gregory scored eight, Vonderheide had six, Ohnesorge four and Nichols one.
Grove and Strauch led BC with six points each and the only other scorer was Decker with four points.
Stew-Stras (2-1, 1-0 NTC) plays next at Altamont on Monday at 6:15 p.m.

Stew-Stras 7th grade boys went to the St. Anthony tourney on Saturday and split, beating St. Elmo, 30-20, then losing to St. Anthony, 32-25.
After falling behind 10-8 in the 1st, the Comets doubled-up St. Elmo in the 2nd to take a 2-point lead at the half, 16-14. A slight edge in the 3rd made it a Comet 4-point lead heading into crunch time, 22-18. Down the stretch, the Comets crippled St. Elmo and pulled away with an 8-2 run.
Kramer and Kessler led the Comets with 10 and 9 and points, respectively.

Against St. Anthony, the Comets were shut out in the 1st, 12-0. They started to get some traction in the 2nd, but trailed 22-4 at the half. They almost held their own in the 3rd, but still trailed 28-6 to start the 4th.
In the 4th, the Comets finally caught fire and streaked out on a 17-4 run. It still left them seven points short of climbing out of the big hole they were in.
Once again, Kramer led the Comets, this time with a game-high 13 points. Deters led St. Anthony with 12 points.
