Lakers face Goliath Sholem Meet

“This was a huge meet,” said Laker coach Nicole Hendry. “Sholem had 150 plus swimmers and their pool was spectacular. The staff was so kind and the parents of this team were very welcoming. We had a lot of fun.”

The Lakers didn’t slay Goliath, but they did score some solid places and proved they had the right to be there. Shelby had two 2nd place finishes, five 3rd place finishes, and eight 4th place finishes.

Isaac Chambers had the best individual Laker finish of the day, placing 2nd in the 8&U 25 backstroke in a time of 26.12. The 10&U girls also claimed runner-up honors, taking 2nd in the 200 meter freestyle relay. Macy Owens, Abigail Kaiser, Kailynn Mayhall and Emma Houska swam a 2:53.19.

“Emma Houska showed natural ability in butterfly and breaststroke, despite this being her first meet in competitive swimming,” Coach Hendry said. “She started the season a little late, but has shown major improvements in the weeks she’s been with us. I’m so sad our season is nearing an end. It always seems like we just get in our groove and then summer is over.”

Houska also swam in the 4th place 10&U 200 medley relay with Kaiser, Owens, and Mayhall (4:28.45). She swam 50 freestyle (56.10), 1:23.07 in the breaststroke, 1:18.08 and 50 back.

Madison Kerr (10&U) had 3rd and 4th place solo finishes. She was 3rd in the 50 meter breaststroke (52.18) and 4th in the 50 meter freestyle (44.11).

Jasmine Oakley also had a 3rd and a 4th place finish. She was 3rd in the girls 15-18 100 meter breaststroke (1:58.13) and 4th in the 100 meter backstroke (1:54.14).

Meredith Chambers was 3rd in the 6&U 25 meter backstroke (34.08). Eddie Clearwater was 3rd in the 11-12 50 meter butterfly (1:01.86). The 8&U girls also had a 3rd place finish in the 100 meter freestyle relay. Anna Tynan, Sara Tynan, Meredith Chambers, and Alexis Jokisch swam a 1:41.05.
