Shelby Shuts Out Pana

SHELBYVILLE, IL. —

Shelbyville (13-1) left 13 runners on base on Thursday, but it didn't matter. Jake Keown and the Ram defense shut out Pana and came away with a 3-0 victory.

The Rams couldn't pull the rigger on a big rally in this game. They left the bases loaded in the 1st, a man in scoring position in the 2nd, and the bases loaded in the 3rd. They left a man on 3rd in the 4th, two men on in the 5th, and the bases loaded in the 7th.

Pana had a shot an early lead, when Metzger doubled with one out in the 1st and Zahradka singled. But Luke McConnell had a good throw in and Nate Standerfer threw to get Metzger hung up. Neil Yockey threw to the catcher, Garrett Manship, for the out.

In the 2nd Trexler led off with a single, but Keown picked him off and the Rams retired the next two men in order on a fly ball to McConnell and a pop up to Manship.

Finally, in the 3rd the Rams got a run in. With one out Luke Hatfield walked and Standerfer singled. Yockey singled to load the bases again. Hawkins and Manship drew back-to-back walks and Shelby was up 2-0. Despite having the bases still loaded with just one out, a pop out and a K, short-circuited the possible rally.

In the 3rd, McConnell caught another fly ball, but Winter reached on an error. Lett walked, but Yockey made an unassisted play to get Lett and threw to Standerfer to get the batter at 1st.

Eli Miller led off the 4th with a single and was sacrificed by Keown. On 3rd with just one out, Miller was stranded. Keown got two Pana hitters to pop up in the 4th and rang up the other, for Keown's first strikeout of the game.
