Shelby JV Levels Hillsboro

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Shelby JV basketball tipped off their season with a 18-point rout of Hillsboro on Tuesday, 49-31.

The Rams blitzed the Toppers with a 16-5 run to start the game. Six different Rams scored in the opening salvo. Sheldon Meyer opened with a trey, then a deuce. Tristan Wade scored twice. David Roedl, Devin Miner and Brayton Wooters all had twos. Bart Kennell had a free throw. Hillsboro had one trey and two free throws.

The Toppers almost played even in the 2nd, but Shelby extended their lead by a bucket. Hillsboro got three baskets from their leadng scorer, a trey and another two.

Shelby  had five scorers. Miner scored twice, Jordan Smith had a two and 1-of-2 free throws. Meyer, Wade, and Kennell added solo twos for a 13-point lead at the break, 29-16.

Recharged by the pause, Shelby came out of the locker room for a 15-4 run. Wade scored three times. Miner nailed a trey and a deuce, while Smith and Meyer added two more solo twos. Hillsboro managed just two buckets and trailed by 24 points, 44-20.

The fat lady was singing in the 4th as Hillsboror cut into the final margin on an 11-5 run, to lose only by 18.

Shelby had two, almost three, players in doube figures, Hillsboro none. Tristan Wade had 12 points, all from the floor. Devin Miner had 11 points, all field goals, including 1 trey. Sheldon Meyer had nine points, all from the floor, including a trey.

All 32 of those three Rams' points were in the first three periods.
