In a showdown of Devils, Windsor/Stew-Stras torched Villa Grove/Heritage on Wednesday, 19-7.
Runs were going to be scored by both teams, but Windsor/Stew-Stras spun the revolving door at home as they racked up 12 runs in the 2nd inning.
W/SS had a 4-run rally in the first, but that was just a down payment. Villa Grove answered with two runs in the bottom of the 1st. Each team had struck a blow, but the game was a still anybody's. Until W/SS batted again.
W/SS needed a calculator in the 2nd, scoring 12 runs and leading 16-2 after two and a half innings. Villa Grove was undetered. They responded with a 4-run rally, but still trailed by the 10-run rule, 16-6.
The teams took a break from scoring in the 3rd and 4th. In the top of the 5th, W/SS added a couple of insurance runs to ensure the early dismissal, leading 18-6.
Villa Grove needed three runs to extend the game, but only got one. The game ended after five innings.
Dylan Ohnesorge came on in relief and pitched three scoreless innings for the win, giving up just two hits and a walk, while striking out six.
W/SS knocked out 15 hits, including a home run by Vonderheide. Vonderheide was 2-for-3 with 4 RBIs. Hayden Cole was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Alex Allen was also 2-for-2, driving in two runs.
