A&M At Shelby Match-up

This Friday the Central A&M travels to Shelbyville to take on the hometown Rams in aWeek 2 matchup.

Last week, both teams started the season on a bad note with each team getting shut out byeach opponent starting 0-1. CAM got destroyed 36-0 on their home turf against Monticello on their new head coach’s debut as the Raiders coach.

Nate Graham said this week they planned to make corrections quickly and get better in practice.

I told them that everything we did can be fixed, and it’s only week 1,” Graham said.

With Graham staying positive with his young team, the Raiders look to go into Shelbyville and pull out a win from their former head coach, Mark Ramsey.

Ramsey was the head coach at CAM for 30 years while he recorded 239 wins as a coach there. You knew this game would come one day, but you did not expect it to come so soon.

Ramsey originally was planning to retire as a coach after his last year at CAM, but he changed his mind. The school board did not seem to care and CAM decided to go in a different direction which led to the hiring of Graham.

It’s a little strange,” Ramsey said.

Ramsey said he has to look at them now as the next opponent because his job is to coach a new group of guys. He said those guys are the players he’s rooting for now.

Ramsey said it becomes a little more special than just another game because he coached them for 30 years.

Shelbyville did not exactly get an easy test in week 1, when they took on the defending state champion Maroa-Forsyth Trojans.

Shelbyville was creamed 40-0 on Maroa’s home turf. The Trojans were led by Quarterback Jack Hockaday’s four touchdowns. Three were through the air while one was on the run.

The kickoff starts Friday in Shelbyville at 7 p.m.
