Windsor Splits At Cerro Gordo Tourney

SHELBYVILLE, IL. —

Windsor 7th (3-1) bounced back from their first loss of the season on Monday at the Cerro Gordo Tournament, by beating host Cerro Gordo by almost 20 points on Tuesday at the tourney, 40-21. Windsor 8th (0-4) went down again, losing to Cerro Gordo 8th by 20, 49-28.

After a blow-for-blow 1st period, Windsor broke out on a 14-2 2nd period run to lead by a dozen at the break, 22-10.

They maintained that momentum in the 3rd with a 12-5 run. Looking at the final 6:00, Windsor was up by 19, 34-15.  Cruising in the 4th Windsor and Cerro Gordo matched each other like they did in the 1st, ensuring the Windsor 19-point victory.

Ben Beck came up huge. In their loss on Monday, Beck had 13 rebounds, but was held to just four points. On Tuesday, Beck had a game-high 11 points, with eight rebounds.

The Trojans had stair-step scoring as Beau Bennett followed with eight points, Jackson Miller seven points, and Logan Greuel with six points. Greuel led Windsor with 10 rebounds.

Windsor had 36 rebounds in the blowout.

In the 8th grade game, Windsor played Cerro Gordo even for three quarters, before the wheels came off under a 21-1 Cerro Gordo run.

CG opened with a 21-5 run, but Windsor fought back in the 2nd with a 12-6 run, trailing by just a point at the break, 18-17.

The two teams played even in the 3rd and CG still led by just one heading into crunch time, 28-27.

Crunch time was just that as CG went on a 21-1 run leaving Windsor in the dust and wondering what happened.

Despite the loss, Gavin Bennett led the Trojans with a double-double, 11 points, 10 boards. Gage Sattler followed with nine points, six rebounds.
