Moulton baseball starts 3-0

Shelbyville Moulton baseball has started 3-0 with dominant pitching. They won at Clinton on Saturday in A and B games, 10-0 and 7-0. They won Monday at St. Anthony, 11-0. Tuesday they opened at home and beat Maroa, 7-1. They tied the B game, 4-4.

They won Saturday behind a 1-hitter and a no-hitter. They won Monday behind another 1-hitter. On Tuesday in the A game, Turner Pullen and Quinn Martz combined to allow just one run and three hits over seven innings, while throwing nine strikeouts.

The Rams also cranked out 10 hits in the A game on Saturday, 12 hits on Monday, and scored seven runs on six hits on Tuesday. They put the ball in play on Tuesday and reached five more times on errors. Add three walks and the Rams had a total of 14 base runners.

On Monday, Payton Howell threw a 1-hit shutout, with no walks and six strikeouts in five innings. St. Anthony recently beat Stew-Stras/Windsor, 10-5. However, St. Anthony couldn’t get any traction against Moulton.

Mason Cameron, Pullen, and Howell singled in the 1st. Cameron stole 2nd and home and Pullen stole home for a 2-0 lead. Martz drew a lead off walk in the 2nd, advanced on a ground out and Spears singled. Martz scored, 3-0 Rams. Howell rang up three batters in two innings.

Shelby rallied in the 3rd. Tylr Gottfriedt led off with a single and Pullen singled him home. Watson singled and, with two outs, Miller hit a 2-run double. Spears followed with an RBI double, 7-0 Rams. Howell KO’d another batter. Gottfriedt led off the 4th with a triple and Pullen launched a sac fly to center. Howell had two more strikeouts.

Up 8-0 in the 5th, the Rams put the early dismissal into play. Martz led off reaching on an error, Miller singled, and Spears hit a 2-run single, 10-0 Rams. Summers grounded out, but scored Spears, 11-0. In the bottom of the 5th, the Rams put the Bulldogs down, making plays. Cameron threw out a batter, Watson made a 3-unassisted play at 1st, and Pullen squeezed a pop fly to end the game.

    Shelbyville boys and girls swept the Tuesday triangular track meet at Maroa. Shelby boys scored 100 points and the girls 98 points, defeating Maroa and Meridian.
