---- — The #4 ranked Shelbyville Ram cross country team went to the Peoria Heights Meet on Saturday for a workout on the IHSA State Course. They got their workout in and still placed 7th in a 34-team event.

“Our main purpose was to get kids experience on the State course,” said Ram Coach Kevin Kramer. “We were able to do that today. I don’t like to push them, because we just ran conference on Thursday.”

The Rams ran in a herd with all six runners finishing with 27 seconds of each other. Marcus Skinner finished 50th (16:49.3) and Drennian Martin was on his hip, three tenths of a second later (16:49.6). Jaden Stockdale was in Martin’s back pocket just two tenths of a second later (16:49.8).

Freshman Tyler Pasley (16:54.9) followed just 5.6 seconds behind Skinner and 5.1 seconds behind Stockdale. The Rams 5th scorer, Kenton Wilson, hit the chute just 7.2 seconds later (17:02.1), packing the five Ram scorers within 12.7 seconds of each other. Sixth man Preston Henze finished 14.2 seconds later (17:16.2).

“We went tempo pace with the guys and did a little workout after. I was very happy with how they looked. We ran about 25 seconds faster than last years team and looked good doing it. We will have our hands full with Mt. Zion next week at regional, so we will be working out pretty hard this week.”

The three Lady Rams Molly Yockey, Morgan Powers, and Maggy Yockey met their goals in the workout.

“The girls went out and ran fairly hard,” Coach Kramer said. “They went out a little faster than I would have liked, but held on strong.”

Molly finished 31st out of 211 runners (19:36).

“Molly looked strong the entire way and actually only ran about 14 seconds slower than she did at state last year,” Coach Kramer said.

Morgan Powers finished in 45th, just 34 seconds later (20:10).

“I wanted Morgan Powers to run under 20:30 and she did that perfectly,” Coach Kramer said.

Maggy Yockey finished in 70th, just 30 seconds behind Powers (20:40).

“Maggy Yockey ran one of her best races of the year, actually,” Coach Kramer said. “She said she really liked the course.”

In the JV race, freshman Hunter Plummer led the six Rams, placing 13th out of 94 runners (19:43) and Erik Bowers followed in 28th (18:20).

“This was the last meet for most of our JV runners, so I had them go hard even though they were tired from conference,” Coach Kramer said. “I am very happy with how they have come on here at the end of the year. They are really starting to understand about pacing and actually did a great job of it today. A lot of them struggled the last mile only because they were still tired and sore from conference. We have a lot of potential in the JV squad that will have to step up next year. I hope they are up to the challenge. I think they will be.”
