SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
Monday night the Shelbyville Lady Rams played their usual game. However, their usual game leaves them at least one scorer short. Maroa had one more scorer, so they beat the Rams, 53-38.
Brenna Finck led Maroa with 14 points. Lindsay Burton led Shelby with 12 points. Mason and Flesner had eight points each for Maroa, while Courtney Schultz and Lindsay Floyd had seven points each for the Rams. Butler scored nine points for Maroa and the Rams had no answer.
Four other Rams split 12 points, while the Maroa remnant split 14 points four ways. The game would have been a 5-point game that could have gone either way, but Maroa had that extra scorer.
Shelbyville got off to one of their best starts of the season, scoring 14 points in the 1st. Maroa was almost as ,offensive, but the Rams were up two after the quarter, 14-12. Floyd knocked down a deuce and a trey, Olivia Williamson had a pair of baskets and Burton got to the line twice, making 3-of-4 shots, then a two, for 5 of her 12 points.
The Trojans then broke out on an 18-7 run. Finck got to the line a ton in the 2nd for Maroa and that paid dividends. She made a pair, then hit a 3-pointer. She got to the line two more times and made 3-of-4, then a 2-pointer, giving her 10 of her 14 points in the 2nd period 18-7 Maroa run. Maroa got four more buckets, while Shelby had just three total in the 2nd. Schultz had a deuce and a trey for the Rams and Bri Ruff had a bucket. Shelby trailed by nine at the break, 30-21.
The 3rd period was low-key, with Shelby trimming the 9-point lead to eight. Burton made 1-of-2 free throws and then two baskets. Madison Boone got on the board for a two. Maroa got three solo buckets, but still led 36-28. The game was within 10 and still up for grabs.
However, Maroa sprinted out to another run, out-scoring Shelby 17-10 down the stretch. Shelby got solo buckets from four players, Schultz, Tiffany Heselton, Ruff and Burton. They got two free throws from Floyd. Shelby had five players score in crunch time. Maroa had six players score. Three players had solo buckets, one had a conventional 3-point play and two more players had a pair of buckets.
Shelbyville was to go to Argenta on Thursday, then have a week off before hosting Neoga, December 20.

In the JV match, the game went the same way as the varsity game.
Shelby had a slim lead after one, but Maroa JV went on a 2nd period run, to go up by four at the break, 16-12. Maroa JV didn’t wait ‘til the 4th for their 2nd run, They had it in the 3rd, a 15-3 run. Shelby was road kill to start the 4th, down by 16, 31-15. The Rams didn’t quit and scored in double digits for the first time all night. But, they barely cut the lead.

Mercedes Austin stepped up the Ram JV with a season-high 12 points, all from the floor. Grace Schuler followed with sic points.
