SHELBYVILLE, IL. — St. Anthony came to Shelbyville on Thursday and handled the Lady Rams pretty good. They erased an early deficit with a burst before the break, then went on to win by 20, 45-24.

Shelby started slow, but St. Anthony started slower. Ram sophomore Madison Boone scored twice in the 1st and Ram leading scorer Lindsay Burton had a deuce for a 2-point lead. St. Anthony was held to just two solo buckets from Walsh and Niebrugge and found themselves in slogging through mediocrity.

That ended in the 2nd period as the Lady Bulldogs went on a 17-4 run and righted their ship. Walsh was unleashed.

She scored, then got to the line, making 1-of-2. She scored two more times and got the line again, making 1-of-2 foul shots. She got to the line again and made both shots for 10 of her game-high 14 points in the 2nd. Richards made a pair of free throws and a deuce. Wendt converted a 3-point play.

Shelby got just one bucket from Burton in the 2nd. Burton, Boone and Olivia Willimason got to the line. Burton and Boone split their trips and the Rams went from up two after the 1st to down 11 at the half, 21-10.

The Rams finally got some traction in the 3rd, but St. Anthony matched them. Boone scored two more times in the 3rd, Courtney Schultz got on the board with a deuce and a trey. Lindsay Floyd was fouled on a 3 and made 1-of-3 at the line. She was fouled again and made 1-of-2.

St. Anthony scattered their 3rd quarter points among six different players. Gardewine, Niebrugge, Wendt, Mumm, and Walsh had solo twos. Nuxoll split a pair at the line. The Bulldogs still led by 11 heading into the 4th, 32-21.

That's when the Rams ran out of umph. St. Anthony left Shelby in the dust with a final 13-3 run. Wendt scored twice, Bushur made two foul shots, then a two. Richards and Schmidt scored and McDevitt made a free throw.

All the Rams could muster was  Burton two and a free throws. Shelby got to the line eight times in the 4th, but were just 1-of-8.

The Bulldogs had 10 players score, with one, almost two, in double figures, while Shelby had just four players score, total. None were in double figures, but Boone and Burton were close.
