Hornets Stung By Hillsboro

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Hillsboro pulled off a big upset in the Highland Tourney on Saturday as as several factors conspired to beat CHBC by just two points, 55-53.

Hillsboro did a great job of taking out of our uptempo game," said CHBC Coach Carolyn Wendte. "Plus, they got too many offensive rebounds and we had our worst day at the free throw line of 4-of-10."

CHBC started well, posting a 4-point lead in the 1st, 16-12. However, Hillsboror countered in the 2nd with a 16-11 run and took a 1-point lead at the half, 28-27. The game was on and in the 3rd CHBC was able to knot the score at 40-40, before heading down the home stretch.

Usually, with all-stater Micah Jones on the court in a close game, CHBC finds a way to win. But on this rare occasion, the negative factors conspired to leave them short.

CHBC's Micah Jones was the game-high scorere and rebounder with 29 points and 18 boards. She scored 13 times from the floor, but was just 3-of-7 at the line. However, Hillsboro almost had her match. Shelby Gray scored 27 points, including  trey hat trick and 4-of-4 at the line.

Hillsboro more then matched the other top Hornet scorers. Kennah White scored 11 (3-3s), while CHBC's Ava Paruleski scored just nine. Carly Cameron scored nine for Hillsboro, more then CHBC's Kacie Hilt with eight. Gretchen Hobbie had five for Hillsboro, while Autum Riley had just three for the Hornets.

CHBC scored 23 times inside the arc, but just once outside. Hillsboro scored 14 times inside the bow, but connected on a half-dozen triples. CHBC out-scored Hillsboro from the floor 49 to 46. But, Hillsboro's foul shooting tipped the scales. The were 9-of-13 (69%). CHBC was just 4-of-10 (40%). CHBC missed six free throws in a 2-point loss.

CHBC gets back in the saddle on Monday in the Highland Tourney against Triad.
