Moulton Sweeps Maroa

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Moulton basketball hosted Maroa on Thursday and swept them back towards to Decatur. Shelby 7th (6-2) didn't score in the 4th quarter and still won by double-digits, 34-24. Shelby 8th stayed undefeated (8-0) with a strong finish, 33-27.

The 7th grade game was close in the 1st half. Shelby took a 3-point lead in the 1st, but Maroa came back to take a 1-point lead at the break, 17-16.

The 3rd period was Shelby "shock and awe." Malcolm Miller scored 10 of his game-high 21 points in the 3rd to lead a Ram 18-2 run. Emric Messado hit his second trey in the run and Johnston made two free throws and a 3-pointer.

With a 15-point lead, the Rams dialed it down and didn't score in the 4th. No matter, Maroa only scored two buckets and a free throw and fell by 10.

In the 8th grade game, Maroa boasted the game-high scorer, Kuhn, with 19 points. However, the Rams had eight different scorers and got the win.

Once again, the Rams started slow and trailed, 6-2, as Kuhn scored twice. Turner Pullen had the only Ram bucket. Shelby shot back and out-scored Maroa by 10 points the rest of the way.

Shelby had an 8-4 run in the 2nd and knotted the score. Kuhn was held to just two points. Brett Spear had the only bucket in the run, but Cade Watson, Peyton Koonce and Tyler Gottfriedt got to the line and made hay. Watson made 3-of-4, Gottfriedt made 2-of-2, and Koonce 1-of-2, tying the game at the half, 10-10.
