CHBC 10-0 Run Rates NTC Title

Jones Named MVP

(Continued)

SHELBYVILLE, IL. —

Jones posted up and beat two players with 5:35 to play, 31-30 Bulldogs. Paruleski had a near steal at the St. A end and forced a turnover.

St. Anthony stole the ball at the CHBC end, but stepped out of bounds. Jones got the ball to Paruleski, who drove and dished to Hilt for two and a CHBC lead, with 4:40 to play, 32-31.

Paruleski forced another Bulldog travel and then drove at the Hornet end and was fouled. She buried both free throws and CHBC was up 34-31 with 2:36 to play.

After another Bulldog miss, the Hornets decided to run some clock. They took it from 1:50 to 1:22, before Jones was fouled. She made one free throw, then St. Anthony called time-out. She made the second free throw to cap the 36-31 score.

St. Anthony had a minute to try to get something. St. Anthony missed, but Jones turned it over. St. Anthony missed again and Hilt grabbed the board.

Jones was fouled with 30 seconds left, but missed her shots. St. Anthony put up a 3-pointer, but missed again. The Bulldog press got a  turnover. Another missed 3-pointer and a rebound foul put Hilt on the line with 8 seconds left and fouled out Melissa Bushur.

Hilt missed, but St. Anthony was out of time. They missed a final 3 and Jones grabbed the rebound to end the game.

It was a grueling defensive game and it took its toll on the players.

"We had good looks at the end, we just didn't make the shots, "said St. Anthony coach Bart Wiedman. "We were exhausted."

"Last night, we showed we could come back in the 3rd," said CHBC coach Carolyn Wendte. "Today we showed we can come back in the 4th. We won on heart and guts."
