Pana man dies in stabbing over weekend

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — A Pana man died early Saturday morning as a result of a stabbing.

James A. “Adam” Bertin, 29, was pronounced dead at 4:11 a.m. Saturday at Pana Community Hospital emergency room. An autopsy was conducted Sunday.

According to Michael M. Havera, Christian County State’s Attorney, five people have been arrested in connection with the incident and initial charges of mob action have been filed.

“The Pana Police Department responded immedicately and, per protocol, contacted Illinois State Police Zone 4 Investigations, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigations, Central Illinois Enforcement Group, Illinois State Police District 9, the Christian County Sheriff’s Department, the Christian County State’s Attorney and Christian County Coroner’s Office,” Havera stated in a press release Monday morning.

“This investigation is ongoing and we await those results and further charging recommendations,” he added.
