Coat Drive nets over 400 coats

Through the generosity of area people, more than 360 coats were given to people in need this winter.

The second annual Jason Jordan Memorial Coat Drive, collected more than 420 coats earlier this winter, according to organizer Dawn Reeves.

“I want everyone to know how thankful and honored I am that they would help me,” Reeves said. “Everyone who donated is my personal hero. The community should be proud of themselves.”

Collected coats were cleaned and donated to the Shelby Christian Church coat ministry, to families in the Shelbyville area, to Head Start, and to homeless shelters in Decatur.

Reeves began the project last winter in memory of her son Jason who was known to give his own coats to others who needed one.

“Last year there were about 316 coat donated. This year there were a lot of new coats bought and donated,” Reeves said.

Reeves expressed her thanks to the Shelby Christian Church, the Daily Union, John Carswell, Community Banks, Marathon for posting on their sign, Qik n EZ, County Market, Casey’s, and Dollar General for their donations, food drive and toy drive throughout the year.
