Stewardson Firefighters respond to late night structure fire

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — At 2:02 a.m. on January 31, 2013 members of the Stewardson Fire Department responded to a fully involved structure fire located approximately 3 miles west of Stewardson on County Road 2500 East 1/4 mile north of the Mode Road.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a two story wood-frame residential structure fully involved and partially collapsed.  Crews worked until about 4:30 a.m. to extinguish the remains of the house, which is entirely collapsed into the basement.

According to the Shelby County Supervisor of Assessments office the legal owner of the property is Jeremy Yakey of Vidalia, Louisiana, and local sources advise the farm-site is managed locally by Ed Friese of rural Stewardson.

The residence was vacant at the time of the fire, and an official cause of fire is currently undetermined.

Stewardson Firefighters were assisted by the Stewardson Ambulance Service during firefighting operations.
