---- — The 2013 Assumption Fest was held Thursday through Saturday in the neighboring Christian County community.
This year’s theme was “There’s No Place Like Home”. The Grand Marshal for the festival this year was the Assumption Optimist Club.
Thursday was mainly focused on the pageant contests. The pageants started on the main stage on Main Street at 7:15 p.m. The first contest was for the 2013 Little Miss Assumption. Last year’s winner was Emily Herring. The second runner up was Elizabeth Rutan. The first runner up was Jocie Moore. The new 2013 Little Miss Assumption is Kinadee Dial.
Peyten Dial was the 2012 Junior Miss. In this year’s Junior Miss contest the second runner up was Emily Lehew. The first runner up was Maddi Walker. The 2013 Junior Miss Assumption is Lexie Rodgers.
Riley Waddington was the 2012 Miss Assumption. In this year’s contest the second runner up was Caitlin Hubner. First runner up was Elizabeth Suhrbier. Kaitlyn Corzine is the new 2013 Miss Assumption.
Friday’s activities included a garden tractor pull, the tiny queen and tiny king contest, and live dancing and music. Dance Station performed and followed was Big Snakes Daddies band to end the night on the main stage. There was a DJ at the beer tent afterwards which went till midnight.
Saturday was the most eventful day of the festival. Even though the weather was not the best, there was still the Raiders Cross Country 5K Run at 8 a.m., which was followed by the Parade that went down the main road that goes through Assumption.
Throughout the day there was sporadic rain, but there was still the Macon Speedway Show, multiple BMX stunt shows, and multiple tournaments for volleyball, washers, and water ball fights. There was also Woodcarving by “Chainsaw Chick” Raychelle Conley and Dan Harding.
The most exciting activity of the night was the four hour performance by up and coming group Maiden Dixie Band. The group featured a hometown artist, Channing Himes. The group was originally scheduled to perform on the main stage at 7 p.m., but rescheduled for 8 p.m. at the beer tent due to the weather.
The show went on though, and they finished out the end of the festival performing country music to a crowd that had been waiting all day the see them perform.
