2013 Angel of Love program begins

A new year for the area Angel of Love program has begun as letters will soon by going out to families who may qualify for the program.

The First Assembly of God Church in Shelbyville is overseeing the program this year.

“Because the local DHS (Department of Human Services) office in Shelbyville is closing, area schools are helping us choose and distribute letters and forms to qualifying families,” said coordinator Tiffany Daniel.

Last year the program helped approximately 500 children throughout the county.

To qualify for this program, families must be clients of CEFS or DHS and live within Shelby County in Beecher City, Cowden, Herrick, Lakewood, Mode, Neoga, Oconee, Shelbyville, Sigel, Stewardson, Strasburg, and Westervelt. Other towns not mentioned have their own programs and are not part of Angel of Love.

Qualifying children must be between the ages of newborn to 13 years. Siblings through age 18 who are still in school and living with the family may also submit requests.

Forms need to be returned by October 14. Tags, which include the child’s age and wish list but not names, will be available in area businesses by early November. Distribution date is set for December 14.

Forms should be returned to Angel of Love Program, PO Box 251, Shelbyville. For more information call First Assembly of God, 774-3277, and leave a message, or email Angelofloveshelbyville@gmail.com. Updates will be posted on facebook.com/angelofloveshelbyville.

Monetary donations may be made at Shelby County State Bank in Shelbyville.

Community volunteers are welcome to help with the program. Contact the church for more information.
