City Council Approves TIF Ap, MiniPark Plan Changes

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — The Shelbyville City Council conducted its business in 10 minutes Monday evening, approving several items without discussion.

The council approved proposed changes to the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) applications.

Those changes include:

- Requiring multiple estimates, at least two, for work to be done

- Finished work must be inspected by the city’s building inspector

- Waiving of the application fee.

The council approved the new conceptual design presented for the downtown mini-park, also known as the Sister City Park.

Shelbyville Downtown Improvement committee chair Anita Breeden told the board that the committee decided  the plans drawn by the architects did not work well for the community. She presented a new design created by Shelbyville Garden Club president Karen Cherry. The plan features planting areas, lighting, trees, Sister City paving bricks display and covered shelters.

In other business the council:

- Accepted the bid by Steve Canada to purchase a 1988 GMC truck from the city fro $155.

- Approved the use of the East Main Street parking lot for the Rotary Club Halloween costume contest. The contest will be held Friday,October 26 from 5-7 p.m.

- Appointed Brenda Shoaff to the Cemetery Board of Managers to replace Connie Roney.

Commissioner Jeff Johnson reported that the work on South 8th Street is nearly complete and that bids will be opened October 12 for work on South Hickory Street from South 5th to South 8th streets.
