Funnel clouds prompt response

At approximately 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, the Stewardson Fire Department was dispatched by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department regarding a funnel cloud sighting in the Stewardson-Strasburg area. The fire department responded for weather spotting, but was unable to locate any funnel cloud or rotation activity, and the National Weather Service indicated no active watches, warnings, or advisories for Shelby County at the time of the incident. The area did experience scattered and isolated rainfall, but no severe weather or reports of damage.

A member of the Stewardson Ambulance Service captured an image of the funnel cloud as it developed near the Stewardson area Thursday afternoon.

The Stewardson Fire Department, Ambulance Service, and First Responders are actively recruiting new members. The Fire Department holds regular meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 7pm at the fire station. The public and anyone interested in joining the department are encouraged to stop by to visit and learn more about the department on any regular meeting night.
