---- — Shelbyville’s downtown mini-park is nearing completion as concrete is set and the shelter is being erected.

Work on the mini-park’s renovation began this summer and will be an inviting place for relaxation for downtown shoppers and visitors.

Karen Cherry of the Shelbyville Garden Club designed the renovation which will also be colored with plants and trees – a contrast to the concrete of downtown Shelbyville.

“It will invite people to come and relax. The curves of the concrete softens the feel and adds to the garden features of the park,” Cherry said.

The former park was brick-laid and featured inscribed bricks as a tribute to Okuwa, Japan.

Those bricks will set apart in a special inlaid area of the park.

Streetscape plans for downtown Shelbyville along Main Street will begin next year.
