Stew-Stras basketball surprised Central A&M with effective offense and stifling defense to get one of their biggest wins of the year on Monday, 50-42.

Stew-Stras has struggled to score points this season and get wins. A&M has much more offensive and successful in the win column. That meant nothing on Monday.

Stew-Stras' Mark Jones was unstoppable, going off for a season-high 28 points. He struck six times from the arc and out-shot the Raiders from downtown by himself. He also got to the line four times, making 6-of-9.

According to foil, Stew-Stras fell behind A&M 13-10 in the 1st period. Jones had a pair of treys, while Aaron Blythe and Ted Kessler had solo twos.

Ben Bray and Devin Bagley had solo 3-pointers for A&M. Kohlby Ohl and Ben Stedman had solo twos. Stedman also had 1-of-2 free throws. Trent Chepan led A&M with just 10 points and he made two foul shots in the 1st.

Stew-Stras flipped fate in the 2nd with a 14-10 run. Jones sandwiched two free throws in-between two more treys. Chase Thies, Josh Overbeck, and Blythe had solo deuces.

A&M got solo treys from Bray and Ohl and Chepan scored twice in close as they fell behind by one at the half, 24-23.

The Raiders were still mired in mediocrity in the 3rd, scoring just six points, as the Comets had an 11-6 run. Chepan scored twice and Bagley once.

Jones hit two more times from down town. He was fouled on another 3-point attempt, making one of those free throws. Blythe and Overbeck had solo twos to put Stew-Stras up by six, 35-29.

A&M had to turn the tide in the 4th. They pushed the ball for another 13-point period all on six solo buckets. Bray had another trey, Ohl scored once more, and Jordan Miller, Caleb Ludwig, Zach Ludwig and Luke Mathias all got on the board from the floor.

The Comets put up 15 points to stave off any comeback and secure the win. Jones had a pair of twos, then went to the line twice, making 3-of-4 shots. Blythe scored twice, Kessler once, and Austin Rincker joined the party late with two free throws to cap the 8-point upset.

Part of A&M's problem was shooting just (12-of-33) 36% from in close and (5/21) 24% from the arc. They shot 37.5% from the line.

Stew-Stras shot (12-of-23)52% from 2-point land and (6-of-12) 50% from the arc. They also shot 50% from the line.
