Coldspring Copperheads 4-H members and their families put their hands to “larger service” and helped at Shumway Enduring Freedom Ministries food pantry and soup kitchen on October 28. Enduring Freedom of Shumway is a Christian organization helping those who are in need of food and clothing.

4-H members and parents served hot meals, packed food boxes and loaded parcels into people’s vehicles. Everyone had a station they were in charge of operating. Lola Thompson, club leader, said members had a great time and this experience really impacted the youth and parents. “I don’t think many of the kids have experienced this before. Many families said they would like to return to volunteer again,” Lola said. 4-H Clubs in Shelby County are challenged each year to participate in community service activities such as an event like this one. One of the “H’s” in 4-H is “my hands to larger service” and these 4-H’ers and their families did just that.
