Cowden-Herrick names students of month

Grace Smith and Royce Thompson

Cowden-Herrick teachers have named Grace Smith and Royce Thompson April Students of the Month.

The Students of the Month are nominated by teachers based on academic effort, attitude, participation/contribution, responsibility and service. Two seniors have been selected this month.

Grace Smith is a senior at Cowden-Herrick High School, daughter of Larry and Stefane Smith. She has one brother, Matthew Smith, and three sisters, Amanda Smith, Jayme Thompson and Sarah Thompson.

She is a member of the FFA, Spanish club, Science Club, Drama Club, Performance Club, prom committee, basketball, track, and she was crowned homecoming queen. Grace also is a part of her church youth group and has volunteered at Cowden Pioneer Days. She plans to study pre-dentistry at Lake Land and further her education at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to become an orthodontist.

Royce Thompson is a senior at Cowden-Herrick High School, son of Stuart and Lola Thompson. He has one brother, Brent Thompson.

He is president of the Cold Spring Copperheads 4-H club, FFA chapter President, and the senior class secretary. While at CHHS, he was also on prom committee and homecoming court and has participated in student council, NHS, science club, Spanish club, and performance club. He has been on honor roll throughout high school and has received many awards, such as the SAR citizenship award, 4-H Junior leader award, a 4-H community service pin, was FFA Star Greenhand and the Chapter Star Farmer. Royce plans to attend Lake Land College in pursuit of an Agriculture Education degree.
