The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency will conduct a used/waste tire collection day for Thursday, August 3, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Prairie Township Garage.

The garage is located on the southeast corner of CR400N and CR2700E, approximately 1/4 mile north of Stewardson and one mile west of Rt. 32.

The following conditions must be met for tires to be accepted:

1. No tire will be accepted from businesses such as tire dealers, gas stations, commercial trucking companies, or anyone that will be generating and accumulating tires after the collection has occurred.

2. No tire can be unleaded from vehicles having license plates from outside the State of Illinois.

3. No large industrial/off-road tires will be accepted (tractor, truck, and passenger care tires are acceptable).

4. All participants must complete and sign a Consensual Removal Agreement before any of their tires are unloaded. Local units of government are exempt from this requirement.

5. Maximum number of tires an individual may bring in is limited to 1,000.

6. Individuals that participated in a previous tire cleanup event cannot participate again.

This program is a one-time cleanup offer for Illinois Citizens. Local units of government are exempt from this requirement (counties, townships, villages, etc.).

Traffic should look for enter and exit signs at Prairie Township Garage Drop-off site.

The collection day is sponsored by the Effingham/Clay Service Company, Shelby County Farm Bureau, and Shelby County Health Department.

Call the Shelby County Health Department at 217-774-9555 for additional information.
