A former Tower Hill resident was found dead in a Vandalia home over the weekend.

James Mundy, 31, of Taylorville, was reported missing by his family earlier last week and a complaint filed with the Vandalia Police Department later when his car was found at the home in the 1900 block of Arrow Drive.

“The family knew he was in the Vandalia area and filed the complaint when his car had been fseen parked in front of the residence for a few days,” said Vandalia Police Chief Larry Eason.

Vandalia police went to the home Saturday to investigate and the owner of the home acknowledged that Mundy’s body was in the residence.

“He apparently had been dead for a while. He did not die the day we found him,” Eason said.

Munday was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. An autopsy was being held Monday at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

The residents of the home, Sally and William Cyrus, have been charged with obstruction of justice.

The death is still under investigation.
