SHELBYVILLE, IL – HSHS Good Shepherd Family Health, affiliate of HSHS Medical Group, is ready to schedule your flu vaccination today. The flu season is early this year, so don’t wait to get your vaccine.

Everyone 6 months of age and older should get a flu vaccine every season. Vaccination is particularly important for people who are at high risk of serious complications from influenza.

“Everyone should get their flu shots now, since the flu season has started early this year,” says Suzanne Clarke, M.D. “It takes about two weeks for the vaccination antibodies to develop and start protecting against the flu.”

Seasonal walk-in flu clinics

The Shelby County Health Department has received its seasonal supply of flu vaccine. Walk-in Influenza and Pneumonia vaccination clinics for all adults age 19 and older has begun and is available Monday thru Friday from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM at the health department.

The Center for Disease Control recommends influenza vaccination for all adults yearly to be protected. Individuals should be vaccinated as soon as the vaccine becomes available. CDC guidelines recommend a pneumonia vaccination for all individuals 65 years of age and older. A booster is required if you were vaccinated for pneumonia before the age of 65.

The Shelby County Health Department is in network with many commercial insurance companies and is a Medicare participating provider. Medicare and Medicaid payments will be accepted full for Flu and Pneumonia vaccinations. Please bring your Medicare, Medicaid or Insurance card to the clinics.
