This Friday and Saturday, Cowden-Herrick High School will be presenting “The Sound of Music,” a musical by Rogers and Hammerstein first done on Broadway in the post WWII era. Later, this production was put on the silver screen with Julie Andrews, made famous in the starring role of Maria.

The Sound of Music is a musical that is based on the true-life story of the Von Trapp family and their escape from Hitler’s invasion of Austria. The family escaped over the mountains into Switzerland to come to America where they were known as the Von Trapp Family Singers. The Von Trapp family brought Americans the joy of music and the lost art of playing recorders.

The high school performance will be on two nights: Friday, March 17, and Saturday, March 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the Cowden-Herrick High School gymnasium. The cost of this wonderful evening of song and entertainment is $1.50 for students and $2.50 for adults.

Cowden-Herrick High School invites all to see the grand performances of their talented students. The lead roles are played by Lindsay Tarrant as Maria and Nicholas Brown as Captain Von Trapp. Andrew Wooddell serves as student director/director of choreography on the production while Jessica McAdams as student director/set design and Sarah Randall also as set designer.
