Shelbyville High School junior Alana Dove was selected to the  All-State Music Festival for the second straight year. - Submitted

Shelbyville High School student Alana Dove (junior) has been selected for the second year to the Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA) All-State Music Festival in Peoria, IL.

The Festival will take place over the course of three days, January 30 – February 1, 2020 at the Peoria Civic Center and surrounding area.

The ILMEA sponsors district and all-state competitions for the state of Illinois. Students prepare music that is chosen by the ILMEA for an audition. If selected, the students participate at the appropriate festival(s) within their district. Shelbyville High School is a part of ILMEA District 5, which serves 82 high schools in the area of east-central Illinois.

Alana was one of twenty-eight students who were selected to the ILMEA District 5 Vocal Jazz Festival, which occurred in November at EIU in Charleston. Sophomore through Senior students who participate in that group are then eligible for All-State selection.

Alana is one of only 26 students selected throughout the state from 9 districts to participate in the All-State Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and one of four from District 5. These students work very hard in their audition preparations and continue to rigorously prepare for the upcoming Festival.

“It is wonderful to see Shelbyville well represented at the state level with such a skilled musician,” said Joe Amato, director of choirs at SHS and Moulton Middle School. “Once again, Alana has demonstrated a high level of dedication and musicianship to achieve this honor, and is very well deserving of the opportunity to perform at such a high level.”
