The Village of Strasburg will kick off its summer Farmers Market and will also hold the annual town wide rummage sales and flea market on Saturday, June 6.
The Farmers Market will be held Saturdays, June 6 to September 5 from 9-11 a.m. in the Community Center Parking Lot on Commercial Street. All vendors are welcome. Contact Angie Edwards 217-644-3209 or Jane Giertz 217-644-3044 for information.
Villagers are holding town wide rummage sales on June 6 including a Flea Market at the Crib along North R. 32. The Flea Market will feature crafts, antiques, furniture, fishing tackle, plants and more. Anyone having a rummage sale can sign up at the post office to be added to the list. Maps will be available at Short Stop the day of the sale.
Also around town on June 6, the Strasburg American Legion Auxiliary Unit #289 will be holding Poppy Days. The Poppy was first chosen as The American Legion’s memorial flower at the 1921 National Convention and was worn in memory of the men who lost their lives in World War I. Each year millions of Americans wear little red poppies in memory of those who have died in all wars and to assist in the rehabilitation of those Veterans who are now hospitalized suffering from wounds and illness. They are distributed by unpaid volunteers on Poppy Day. Money collected is returned to the Veterans through the Auxiliary’s program.
While traveling the streets, be on the lookout for garden gnomes. The 2020 gnome census revealed nearly 1400 gnomes in town. Additionally, Edwards Crafts is celebrating their 10th anniversary at 308 N. Pine St. and Side Hustle Concessions will have their stand open in York Acres during the garage sales.
