(Red-letter portions of the New Testament)
John 18:37, “Jesus answered, ‘You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.’”
Before Pilate, Jesus answered no charges against Him. “Like a lamb before his shearer is silent.” But he made it clear why he was born. Jesus says, he was born to testify to God’s truth.
“In the past, God spoke through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.” – Hebrews 1:1-3.
Jesus had already told his disciples, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” He prayed to the Father that his disciples would be sanctified in the truth, “Thy Word is truth.”
Nowadays, people deny the truth of God, handed down through the ages and attested to by Jesus. People make up their own “truth,” their own “reality,” what we used to call “make-believe” or “fantasy,” what psychologists called “delusions.”
Jesus may not be politically correct, but he clearly states, “Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” He gives us no other option.
Do we listen to Jesus to find truth? Or do we try to make up our own truth and justify it. Or do we make up our own reality and defiantly say, “Don’t judge me!”
No matter how much people deny reality or stomp their foot and say “Don’t judge me,” some of what people try to pass off for “truth” these days is just plain baloney and they know it.
“There is a truth older than the ages. There is a promise of things yet to come. There is one born for our salvation...Jesus.” – Chris Tomlin
Jesus says he was born to testify to God’s truth. Let’s check out God’s truth, instead of trying to make up our own.
