Good Shepherd Hospital donates AEDs to Lithia Springs Marina

HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital recently donated three automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to Lithia Springs Marina.

AEDs are portable medical devices that automatically analyze and detect cardiac arrhythmias of Sudden Cardiac Arrest patients through electrodes, and are able to produce a shock which stops the heart and allows it to return to a normal rhythm, a process called defibrillation.

Lithia Springs is one of the most heavily trafficked marinas on Lake Shelbyville. As the summer approaches, an increase of boaters and fishermen will be accessing the marina’s docks. The AEDs will help provide lifesaving measures in case of a cardiac emergency until first responders arrive.

“A training was provided to the owners of Lithia Springs when the AEDs were placed at the docks” Carol Pearson, manager of quality and education, said. “The owners will have each staff member watch a training video to become familiar with how to use the AEDs.”

The donation of AEDs was made possible thanks to community benefit efforts at HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital.

The AEDs have been placed at the gas dock by the ship store, on C dock and J dock.
