The Shelbyville Fire Department was called to the residence of Gary and Patti Beck on Wednesday afternoon. The Beck’s residence is 708 N. Lodge St., Shelbyville.

Engineer Dick Naron of the Shelbyville Fire Department said their department was called out at 4:38 p.m. and returned to the station at 6:50 p.m.. Two pumper trucks were used to fight the fire.

“We called in the Tower Hill Department to stand-by at our station, in case of another fire,” said Naron.

Naron went on to say that is the procedure in cases where both pumper trucks are called out.

Naron said they believe the cause is electrical.

“The house sustained heavy smoke damage throughout, with fire damage to the kitchen and hallway,” continued Naron.

Naron also said that according to their report the house sustained approximately $60,000 worth of damage.

Daphne Killam is the Beck’s daughter and said the family lost a dog in the fire.
