Moulton softball has yet to break out the bats this fall and it happened two more times last week against NTC opponents.

Moulton hit even with St. Anthony, but St. Anthony was able to translate their five hits into 11 runs. Seven walks helped. Madison Boone was 2-for-4 and three other Rams got hits, Brandy Smith, Lindsey Eigsti and Rachel Fox. But, the free passes stacked up against the Rams average offense. The Rams also committed three errors, which contributed to the loss.

After that bummer, the Lady Rams had to travel to undefeated Teutopolis. However, the Rams gave the Shoes a game. It became a pitchers’ duel, that Alex Griffith almost won. Griffith went all seven innings and gave up just three hits to red hot Teutopolis, while striking out seven.

T’town got a 1-run lead in the second, then Griffith shut them out for four innings. In the top of the 7th, the Rams got the tying run on when Boone led off with a double. Kayla Brachbill singled her in.

, but was stranded at third on three straight outs.

In the bottom of the 7th, T’town got the winning run with a lead-off single. The next batter stepped up and won the game with a walk-off single, 2-1.

In the B game, the Rams finally broke out the bats, smacking 13 hits and scoring 11 runs, only to lose again by a run.

Boone (4-for-4) and Griffith (3-for-4) led the way for the Rams. Boone scored all four times she was up and Griffith smacked a triple in the last ditch effort to come from behind in the last at bat. She knocked in Boone to cut the T’town lead to 12-10, then scored herself. However, a pop out ended the game with the Rams still one run shy.

Eight of the nine Moulton batters hit in the B game. However, eight more walks gave T’town the edge in this game, despite the Rams out-hitting them.
