A live Nativity Scene will be from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Church of the Nazarene at the corner of Will and Third Streets in Shelbyville. Guests can enter through the west parking lot.

This consists of 10 or 11 biblical scenes, including when the angels told Mary she will be having a baby and the angel telling Joseph the news, said church member Jody Askins.

In addition to those scenes, she said there will be an inn, a marketplace, the manger, the death of Christ on the cross, the tomb and Jesus' resurrection.

"We kind of start from the very beginning with the visions from the angels to Christ dying and then rising again," Askins said.

Sixty to 75 people will be participating in recreating these scenes this weekend, she said.

About 14 volunteers helped set up for this Nativity scene Saturday, Dec. 8 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The Church of the Nazarene has been hosting this Nativity scene for over 25 years, Askins said.

"We encourage people to go to realize the true meaning of Christmas, and it's not about Santa Claus and presents," she said. "It's about the birth of Jesus Christ."

Askins said years ago, the church rented a camel for the weekend during the scene but have been unable to do so for some time. After several years, the church will have a camel at their Nativity scene this weekend.
