Renee Duff, AccuWeather meteorologist: Damaging thunderstorms will flare up in two rounds, with the middle of the nation first at risk on Tuesday before the severe weather dangers spread eastward at midweek. Tuesday's severe threat will largely be sparked by the leftover circulation of Cristobal as it races northward across the Mississippi Valley. "As the center of Cristobal travels into southeastern Canada, the tail of the storm is forecast to produce severe thunderstorms over the middle Mississippi Valley and the lower Ohio Valley into Tuesday night," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said. These storms can threaten major metro areas such as St. Louis, Chicago and Indianapolis, and could spawn a few tornadoes. Damaging winds and flooding downpours are also possible.
