The Shelbyville Daily Union is seeking nominations for "Citizen of the Year." The deadline to nominate someone is Feb. 22.
The award will be presented during the annual meeting of the The Greater Shelbyville Chamber of Commerce on March 14.
SDU Editor Jeff Long said the newspaper is looking for individuals of extraordinary ethics who strive to improve the welfare of the community and its citizens. For its Citizen of the Year, the newspaper looks for somebody who has made a significant impact on the overall quality of life in the community.
Nominating letters may be sent to the Shelbyville Daily Union at 100 W. Main St., Shelbyville, IL 62565. Or they can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Put "Citizen of the Year" in the subject line.
Include your name and phone number, and also the phone number of the person you are nominating.
Any resident of Shelby County who is 18 years or older is eligible.
Nominees will be considered based on three criteria:
Overall lifetime contribution to and impact on the Shelbyville area to improve the quality of life.
Impact on the community through volunteerism, participation or membership in community, religious or civic organizations.
Demonstrations of dedication to improving our community by providing leadership and resources over and above one's normal employment.
