An 84-year-old Shelby County man was struck by a vehicle and killed early Thursday while retrieving his mail, according to Illinois State Police.
Police said Brian True, 25, of Neoga, was westbound on Illinois Route 16 near 2008 East Road in Shelby County at about 5:15 a.m. A pedestrian entered the roadway while retrieving his mail and was struck by True's 1992 Oldsmobile passenger car, police said.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. True was not injured.
The name of the deceased will be released by the Shelby County coroner once relatives have been notified, police said.
The crash remains under investigation.
