The Relay for Life of Shelby County may look a little different this year, but its mission continues.
The Celebration of Hope will be held at the Lions Club Building in Forest Park Friday, July 19, starting at 6 p.m. with a focus on cancer survivors.
“We want to celebrate the survivors but still remember those fighting and who have lost their battles with cancer,” said Shelby County lead Kathie Storm.
The program includes a dinner for survivors and their caregivers, guest speaker, and a program. A luminaria ceremony to remember cancer victims will also be held. Luminarias may be purchased at the event, or by using the form in the Daily Union, or online at www.relayforlife.org/shelbyil.
The survivor dinner is free, but reservations are encouraged. Contact Debbie Hammond, 774-1345, by July 12 if you would like to be included in the survivor invitation list. Past attendees will be sent invitations. The dinner menu includes pork, baked potato, cole slaw, salad, rolls, drink and dessert.
The Relay For Life fundraising goal for this year is $39,000. Donations may be made at www.relayforlife.org/shelbyil. Funds go to the American Cancer Society for cancer patient services and research.
