Ladies and gentlemen start your grocery carts! It is time for the County Market Nascar Day. The County Market Store in Shelbyville will feature Nascar Day on Friday, May 19th. This was the brain-child of County Market employee Bekah Kobielnik.

“Nascar is my passion and the kids are the reason I get involved in this event,” said Kobielnik. “My heart goes out to those kids.”

This will be the third such event sponsored by the Shelbyville County Market. There will be a breakfast, and giveaways every half hour all day, with those names going into a drawing for a grand prize. Customers can donate $5 and receive a Nascar lapel pin starting the 19th and going on until the pins are gone.

Nascar Day is an event for children who have chronic illnesses. Adam Petty, son of Nascar racer Kyle Petty, and grandson of the “King’ Richard Petty, had a dream to build a camp especially for chronically ill kids. He never got to live out his dream. He died in a wreck at the New Hampshire International Raceway. After his death, Kyle and Richard Petty made his dream come true. They built the camp for Adam and named it “Victory Junction Gang Camp”.

Kids from all over the country get to attend this camp free of charge. All their needs, and medicines, are provided for them. With your $5 donation, these kids are able to attend camp without any financial strain on their families. All money raised through the Nascar Day at County Market will go to the Victory Junction Camp, located in North Carolina.

Tony Kelly, First Assistant Manager for County Market, said there will be a breakfast on the morning of the event, from 6:00 - 9:00 a.m. That breakfast will be served by the County Market Deli and will serve bacon/ham, egg casserole, hash browns, biscuit and sausage gravy, assorted muffins and coffee, orange juice or tea. The cost is $4.00 and all the proceeds will be donated to Nascar’s Victory Junction Camp for Children.

Kelly said the store will also have the County Market 500.

“This event will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and every half hour store employees will walk around the store and pick three winners for that half hour,” said Kelly. “We will have three qualifiers every half hour who will win a prize and then all the names will be entered for the grand prize at the end of the day.”

The prizes for the qualifiers will be 2 liter of soda pop for the 3rd place qualifier, a free coupon for a deli lunch for 2nd, and a $5 gilt card from County Market for 1st. Then all those qualifiers will go into a drawing for a DVD player.

Kelly said the grand prize winner does not have to be present.
