The Shelbyville Daily Union earned second place in its division for General Excellence in the Illinois Press Association's Excellence in News contest. The awards luncheon was held Friday in Springfield. More than 100 daily and nondaily newspapers competed in 44 editorial categories across six divisions.

Earlier this year, former Daily Union reporter Stan Polanski was named Reporter of the Year for nondaily newspapers owned by CNHI. Daily Union editor Jeff Long was named editorial writer of the year.

Polanski and Long were recognized by the company for work published in 2018. CNHI owns more than 100 daily and nondaily newspapers across the U.S.
