A Shelbyville man was struck and killed by a train on Wednesday night, authorities said Thursday morning.
Cody A. Stiefel, 29, of Shelbyville, was pronounced dead at the scene, near the intersection of East South 1st Street and the Union Pacific Railroad in Shelbyville at 10:20 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Shelby County coroner’s office.
“Stiefel was struck by a Union Pacific train,” said Shelby County Coroner Brian Green. “The investigation is ongoing by Shelbyville City Police, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, and the Shelby County Coroner’s Office. Foul play is not suspected.”
An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday in Bloomington, Green said.
