Denise Bence, the superintendent of the Shelbyville School District, has announce plans to retire in June. The Shelbyville School Board is conducting interviews for the position in closed session meetings.

There was a special closed session meeting Thursday to interview candidates, both external and internal.

“We will decide (Thursday) whether we will need to do a second round (of hiring),” Bence said.

She said a final decision was not made at the meeting. Bence sat in the meeting as an “observer” to listen to interviews. She answered questions school board members had about answers given by candidates.

The next superintendent has not been chosen at this time. The candidate will be announced in the near future, but an exact date is unknown.
